London

Historic London LDS Church sites including Hyde Park Chapel which served as Church headquarters for many years; King’s Square where the early apostles first preached in London; Ironmonger Row, the missionaries’ first lodgings; and Stationer’s Hall, where the King James Bible was first read aloud during its final revisions; also where England Book of Mormon copyright was obtained (learn of the great significance of this copyright and the protection it gave for maintaining the integrity of the Book of Mormon).

Enjoy world-famous London with two & a half days of free time to use as you wish all around London for iconic sites, day-tours, theatre, a Thames river-boat cruise --the city is yours! You could also enjoy literary sites of Sherlock Holmes Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe, Keats House, Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey – Chaucer, Clay, Dickens, Hardy, Kipling, etc., Charles Dickens Museum, or Platform 9 ¾ in King’s Cross Station.

Oxford/Blenheim

Enjoy visiting various libraries and churches learning about these places where William Tyndale and many other Bible translators studied & carried out their work translating the Bible. Authors JRR Tolkien (Hobbit & Lord of Rings) and C.S. Lewis (Lion, Witch, & Wardrobe) lived, and worked here. And parts of Harry Potter were filmed in Christ Church College. Also enjoy a stroll through the magnificent Blenheim Palace & gardens; this is where Winston Churchill was born.

Potteries

Church member Theodore Turley was held prisoner here; also the Apostles preached here and stayed for a time. Unique opportunity to shop in world-famous china and porcelain factories. Marvel at the only complete, still-working Victorian Bottle Kiln pottery factory museum.

Liverpool

Very prominent place for John Taylor‘s work, the headquarters for all printing and for the church for 59 years, and home of the docks where the Apostles arrived in England and early convert Saints sailed for Zion. If your ancestors emigrated from Liverpool or served a British mission in the 1800s, they certainly spent some time in Liverpool!

Preston and Preston Temple

Take in the history of Preston where the first baptisms were performed in the peaceful River Ribble despite Satan’s attempt to prevent them; many years later, young Elder Gordon B. Hinckley was overwhelmed on his mission; Orson Hyde, Heber C. Kimball, and Willard Richards battled with the hosts of Satan--and we will discuss many more important events that happened here. Optional temple session at Preston Temple (if temple is open during our visit) and wander the beautifully-manicured temple grounds. You could take family names to do temple work right where your ancestors originated!

Milnthorpe and Lancashire

Enjoy Milnthorpe, the birthplace of John Taylor plus this is a special Bible Translator site; stand on holy ground at Downham and Chatburn and retrace the steps of Heber C. Kimball. Come to understand more about the great missionary successes at Clitheroe, Waddington, and Walker Fold. This area is near where the Bronte sisters lived (Jane Eyre/Wuthering Heights).

Herefordshire

Discover amazing history visiting various King James translators' sites. See the famous, rolling Malvern Hills and follow latter-day Apostles’ faith-filled footsteps as you climb Herefordshire Beacon where it was decided to publish the Book of Mormon in England. Spend time at Gadfield Elm the first LDS chapel in the world and home of the amazing United Brethren congregation conversion; among other exciting events & sites. Robert Frost, Elizabeth Barrett & Robert Browning wrote of and in this area.

Benbow Farm Pond

The legendary Castle Frome and Benbow (Hill) Farm where hundreds entered into the fold! See the very same pond where baptisms were performed by these early missionaries. Lovely setting on lush, green hillsides (filled with beautiful sheep happily grazing, nearby!).

Southern Wales

Explore Merthyr Tydfil (the birthplace of David O. McKay’s mother and an enormously successful mission area for missionary Captain Dan Jones) plus Rhymney and Dowlais as we teach of the great number of converts amidst anti-Mormon trouble that occurred there.

Continue to Cardiff to explore St Fagans National History incredible open-air museum showcasing Welsh livelihood throughout history.
