LDS Church history in England & Wales is certainly unique and our veteran British church history tour guides offer what no one else can! This tour truly offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience you will never forget as you relive incredible LDS Apostle missionaries John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt, Heber C. Kimball, Orson Pratt, George A. Smith, and Willard Richards.

You will also see where William Tyndale and the many other King James Bible translators lived, studied, did their important work of translating the Bible into English and were martyred for the cause along with British Authors sites

Some Historical Sites Visited

London

Historic London LDS Church sites including Hyde Park Chapel that served as Church headquarters for many years; King’s Square where the early apostles first preached in London; Ironmonger Row the missionaries’ first lodgings; and Stationer’s Hall where the King James Bible was first read aloud during its final revisions; also where England Book of Mormon copyright was obtained (learn of the great significance of this copyright and the protection it was for maintaining the integrity of the Book of Mormon).

Enjoy world-famous London with two & a half days of free time to spend as you wish all around London including literary sites of Sherlock Holmes Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe, Keats House, Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey – Chaucer, Clay, Dickens, Hardy, Kipling, etc., Charles Dickens Museum, or Platform 9 ¾ in King’s Cross Station.

Oxford/Blenheim

Enjoy visiting various libraries and churches learning about these places where William Tyndale and many other Bible translators studied & carried out their work translating the Bible. Authors JRR Tolkien (Hobbit & Lord of Rings) and C.S. Lewis (Lion, Witch, & Wardrobe) lived, and worked here. And parts of Harry Potter were filmed in Christ Church College. Also enjoy Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born.

Potteries

Theodore Turley was held prisoner here; also the Apostles preached here and stayed for a time. Unique opportunity to shop in world-famous china and porcelain factories. Marvel at the only complete, still-working Victorian Bottle Kiln pottery factory museum.

Liverpool

Very prominent place for John Taylor‘s work, the headquarters for all printing and for the church for 59 years, and home of the docks where the Apostles arrived in England and early convert Saints sailed for Zion.

Preston and Preston Temple

Take in the history of Preston where the first baptisms were performed in the peaceful River Ribble despite Satan’s attempt to prevent them; many years later, young Elder Gordon B. Hinckley was overwhelmed on his mission; Orson Hyde, Heber C. Kimball, and Willard Richards battled with the hosts of Satan–and we will discuss many more important events that happened here. Optional temple session at Preston Temple (if groups allowed) and visit of its beautifully-manicured temple grounds. You could take family names to do temple work right were your ancestors originated!

Milnthorpe and Lancashire

Enjoy Milnthorpe, the birthplace of John Taylor and special Bible Translator site; stand on holy ground at Downham and Chatburn and retrace the steps of Heber C. Kimball; marvel at the great missionary successes at Clitheroe, Waddington, and Walker Fold. This area is near where the Bronte sisters lived (Jane Eyre/Wuthering Heights).

Herefordshire

Discover amazing history visiting various King James Translators sites. See famous Malvern Hills and follow latter-day Apostles’ faith-filled footsteps as you climb Herefordshire Beacon where it was decided to publish the Book of Mormon in England; witness Gadfield Elm the first LDS chapel in the world and home of the amazing United Brethren congregation conversion; among other exciting events & sites. Robert Frost, Elizabeth Barrett & Robert Browning wrote of and in this area.

Benbow Farm Pond

The legendary Castle Frome and Benbow (Hill) Farm where hundreds entered into the fold! See the very same pond where baptisms were performed by these early missionaries.

Southern Wales

Enjoy Merthyr Tydfil the birthplace of David O. McKay’s mother and an successful mission area for missionary Captain Dan Jones; marvel at Rhymney and Dowlais and the great many converts amidst anti-Mormon trouble that occurred there.

Continue to Cardiff to explore St Fagan’s National History open-air museum showcasing Welsh livelihood throughout history. See a woolen mill, flour mill, farms, churches, courts, various homes through the ages, St Fagan’s castle grounds, and more! This spectacular walk-about museum was awarded the UK’s 2019 Museum of the Year!

Apostle Trails

Visit the places and hear re-counted many, many miracles the Lord invoked thru his apostle servants John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, Parley P. Pratt, and others that literally changed the world! Perhaps your ancestors came from some of these areas and were converted by these missionaries or others who served alongside them or in subsequent years — regardless, EVERY member of the Church today is a beneficiary of and is touched by the missionary successes in these areas. You simply must experience this amazing history!
